Total Gym 1700 Club

The Total Gym 1700 Club is the step up from the Total Gym 1500 and is, what I think, a better value than the entry level Total Gym.

Let me start this review by stating that I do like the Total Gym 1500 and think it’s a good budget gym, but I think the Total Gym 1700 is a far better value and only costs a few dollars more.

Here’s what you get on the Total Gym 1700 that you don’t get with the 1500…

  • Pilates bar which helps improve your range of motion and balance
  • A weight bar that lets you add up to 75 lbs. of additional free weights to increase your workout (weights not included)
  • Dip bars and press-up bars that work together as a complete resistance mechanism that recruits your own body weight to help you maximize strength in a totally stress-free way
  • a user weight limit of 325 pounds (250 pounds on cheaper models)

Yes, the list of additional features isn’t a mile long on the 1700, but the features you get are so important to a better workout, you’d be a fool not to upgrade from the 1500.

The weight bar attachment that let’s you increase the resistance is the best upgrade on this machine.

You may not appreciate the convenience of adding additional weight until you’ve been working out for a couple of months and your strength increases, and when the day comes that you’re stronger and need more of a challenge, you’ll be happy the option is there.

On the down side, the Total Gym 1700 isn’t the best value in this class. See my review of the Total Trainer DLX and see what I consider to be the best home gym under $300.
